SOKOLY

About Sokoly

The band Sokoly was established in 1989 in Drohobych, Ukraine to bring back to life forgotten Ukrainian songs and celebrate the newly announced sovereignty of their homeland. Sokoly became famous for their authenticity and dedication to promoting Ukrainian culture.

Their lead singer Ivan Matsyalko and singer/songwriter Maria Shalaykevych captivated audiences as they toured Europe and North America in 1990s. The band took part in various international music festivals. One of many of their achievements was winning a prestigious first place at "Pisennyi Vernissage" for the song "Solomiya".

Today, the group continues to deliver an unforgettable experience on stage as the band's repertoire has evolved to include original songs of Maria Shalaykevych, as well as the latest solo album "Praying for you Ukraine" by Mykhaylo Matsyalko, the founder of "Sokoly", to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary on stage.

Both Maria and Mykhaylo were recognized by the Ukrainian government for their impactful contribution to the development of the Ukrainian culture.
